Literature Text

A silhouette of people against a conflicting sky;
arms outstretched, as if to hold.
Friends? I am not sure as
I reach out my hand and grasp thin air.

The wind blows harsh, the leaves whistle
and rustle.
And suddenly the friends turn to foes;
I back away, shaking.
The silhouettes make fools of us all.

(Can you wait a little longer?
These shadows are blocking my way.
I can't reach you, I can't go past
this obstacle; my feet trip on a step
I'm sure wasn't there before.

I need to get to you.)

Orange clouds blow overhead,
illuminated as if there were a fire.
It holds the effect of warmth
until realisation hits and I'm dowsed with a cold sweat.

The noises amplify, the screeches pierce
and shock.
Is there danger up ahead?
Is there danger where you are?
The clouds make the way hazy.

(Can I wait a little longer?
These shadows are blocking your way.
You can't reach me, you can't go past
this obstacle; your feet trip on a step
you're sure wasn't there before.

You need to get to me.)

I want to turn back, turn away
from this struggle. I don't wish
for this to happen with you.
I couldn't bear it.
History cannot repeat itself like that.

Especially when it's you.

And suddenly I hear your voice.
The words you utter wind around inside
my head.
And they hit me with a force more powerful
than the shadows.

'Wait for me. Please don't leave me.'

Haven't you always been there?
Wasn't I always a fool?
I let the silhouettes captivate me
and destroy this human sense of feeling.

Yes, you were always in reach, I realise with a smile,
as I burst through the darkness
and into your arms.

Thank you for letting me break through my past.
This poem is open and rather abstract, so interpret as you will, although this does hold a place in my heart.

As ever, a couple of questions: - Does the idea of the silhouettes become lost after the introduction of the 'you'?
- Does the piece flow or give imagery?

Pieces like this are always a bit tricky because they can mean so many things and mean different things to different people, but that's also what makes them so wonderful.
By lost do you mean that they seem unimportant compared to the "you", that you forget about them? Because I don't think so, I think the silhouettes are quite a strong presence in this piece, they keep coming back and you have to make some sense of them. I like that aspect of this, the silhouettes. And if that's not what you mean then I've obviously misunderstood you're question.
It has a very nice flow and there's definitely a lot of imagery in it, the silhouettes I think are one of the biggest pieces of imagery in this, at least to me.
And as for my interpretation, I don't know how interested you are in that though but I'll write in anyway, are that sometimes we can be our own worst enemies, that there are things inside you like your past that can make things difficult and you need to pull through, fight through, learn to see what's important. Realize why you are doing some things and why you're not doing some things. Or you know, why you are keeping yourself from doing or not doing something, thinking you can't when you can.
Anyway... This is absolutely lovely!
